Swedish for Immigrants (SFI)

Swedish for Immigrants (SFI), is a basic education in Swedish for you who are not a native Swedish speaker. You learn how to speak, read and write in Swedish. SFI is free of charge.

What is Swedish for immigrants?

Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) is a language course designed for adults who do not speak Swedish as their native language. The goal is to provide you with a foundation in the Swedish language, enabling you to work, study, and navigate life in Sweden. The course duration varies based on your educational background, study experience, and personal goals.

Completing the SFI course equips you with essential Swedish language skills and knowledge about Swedish society, supporting your integration and job opportunities.

Who can study SFI?

You can begin your studies if:

  • You have turned 16 years old
  • You have little or no knowledge of Swedish
  • You are registered in Gnesta Municipality
  • You have a Swedish personal identity number
  • You are an EU/EEA or Swiss citizen and have a coordination number
  • You are an EU/EEA or Swiss citizen without a personal identity number or coordination number.

Which courses exist?

SFI has 4 levels of study: A, B, C, and D. Which level you study at depends on your educational background and your knowledge of Swedish.

How do I apply?
